Our Lady of Good Hope Roman Catholic Church

"But Pray my children,..."

Our Lady of Good Hope   Pontmain, France 1871

The first time the Stations of the Cross were celebrated was the first Good Friday when Jesus died on Mt. Calvary.

The fourteen Stations as we know them originated from the practice of Holy Land pilgrims who visited the actual scenes

of incidents in the Passion of Christ. Representations of at least some of these scenes were known as early as the 5th century.

Later the Stations evolved in connection with and as a consequence of strong devotion to the Passion in the 12th or 13th centuries.

Franciscans, who were given the custody of the Holy Places in 1342, promoted the devotion widely. The general features of the

Stations of the Cross were fixed by Pope Clement XII in 1731.

Our Lady of Good Hope sponsored the  Outdoor Stations of the Cross on Good Friday at 4:30 pm, following the

3 pm Good Friday Liturgy in the Church. All Hope Churches have been invited to join us. We will walk the streets of Hope

stopping at 14 points to pray the Stations. Everyone will have a book and a hymn sheet We go, rain or shine. It took about two hours.

Christians United to pray the Stations together.

                            LIFT HIGH THE CROSS

“And I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto ME!”

John. 12:32

We invited all followers of Jesus Christ to join us as we pray The Stations of the Cross and sing hymns through the streets of Hope.

Good Friday, April 14th, at 4:30 PM from Our Lady of Good Hope Church.
