Our Parish Mission

With

Frances Hogan

FRANCES HOGAN WAS HERE! What a powerful speaker! Frances was such a joy to have with us. Her talks were well attended for our small parish. She drew people from 60 kilometers away!

Comments from the attendees of the mission were very glowing. (A few are posted below.)

Her gentle manner and wonderful Irish lilt captured everyone’s attention as she opened their souls to receive Christ’s word through her and when she spoke the light of God literally shone in her eyes.

Also watch for her EWTN debut on Sunday March 4th 2:30 am (set a tape in to record it unless you are a night owl) and Thursday March 8 at 8:00 am. It will be telecast for 13 consecutive weeks FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD”

SO how did Frances’ talks affect people?

Frances Hogan's bible talks hold your attention by explaining the gospels in everyday language.

By her understanding of the great love and compassion of the Lord, she inspires listeners to want a closer relationship with Him.

Chris Chamberlin -Married, parish secretary.

My husband and I were doubly blessed as Frances stayed in our home while she was in Hope. She was a gracious guest and we had an lovely visit.

At rest or at work at the scripture talks, she inspires you to connect with the Lord simply by her own peace and love that surrounds her.  Her devotion to enrich others with the knowledge of the Word of God is love at its best.

Her ability to teach to lay people what takes years for biblical scholars to learn is passed to us with such simple clarity.  She deciphers what the ancient writers wanted future generations to learn and she does it with a very wonderful sense of humour. Frances makes you hunger to know Jesus on a very personal level. I was amazed with feeling as though you have been hugged by God just by talking with her.

If you an opportunity to hear this angel of God preach you will not leave feeling anything but a great yearning to know Jesus Christ in the same light as she professes.

As everyone knows Fr. John loves to sing and he was inspired to write some lyrics as a tribute to the Mission.

FAREWELL SONG TO FRANCES HOGAN:

There's something deeper

There's something deeper

There's something deeper

O yes there is

Beneath the surface of each reading

There's fuller meaning for each verse.

Prayer and study

Prayer and study

Prayer and study

Will open God's Word

And you'll see upon reflection

It wasn't what you thought it was.

Without Jesus

Without Jesus

Without Jesus

There'll be empty nets

When we listen to our Lord

Bumper crops will fill both boats

   Look at Galilee

Look at Galilee

Look at Galilee

And what do you see

Jewish people on the east side

And on the west side the Gentile flock

Don’t worry if you missed out on Frances Hogan’s Parish Mission. She is online and there you can read her commentaries on the Psalms or view the selection of her works for purchase. http://franceshogan.com/en/

You can also hear her talks or read her books and renew your passion for our Lord.  She has one on the gospel of Luke –“Luke's gospel is that of a master storyteller. ” Frances Hogan takes Words_of_life_from_lukeup the 'gospel of the poor' and shows us how Jesus brought His disciples to a deeper and truer understanding of Himself and His mission. In this stimulating book Frances brings out the challenge of Luke's gospel to disciples of every age. She calls us to the practice of our faith in our relationships with others and the world around us - concentrating on those Jesus loved so much: those on the fringe of society. Frances Hogan's series of lectures was absolutely riveting. The manner in which she peeled away the outside layers of biblical text to reveal its true core meaning gave us an entirely new perspective on how to read the Bible.

We purchased four tapes covering various topics and found them similarly entertaining. I would be more than happy to donate these tapes to our church library so that others who missed Frances Hogan's lectures could gain the insight we all did during her week's stay in Hope.

“Frances Hogan’s presentation was positive, uplifting, and a good witness of faith and values.  She provided an invaluable, thoughtful, and penetrating analysis of Luke’s Gospel and the Book of Psalms.   Although a biblical scholar of note, Frances Hogan’s delivery is easily understood and made more enjoyable by stories “from back home” that related well to her audience.

Frances Hogan has certainly whetted my appetite for more personal study and has given me the key to studying the Bible.  What a wonderful way to enter Lent!

Her sessions are so inspirational that I would urge others to hear her speak.  We need this more often.”

Jewish wineskins

Christian wineskins

Old cov. out

And new cov. in

Jesus came here not for patching

But to make covenant wholly new

   Frances  showed us

   And inspired us

To see the scriptures with new light

How to pray and sing God’s praises

    Every morning and each night.

    Let Him touch you

   Let Him fill you

Let His Word feed your soul

   Trust Him fully

   And praise Him always

To be Blessed by His great Love

  So just remember,

  So just remember,

  There’s always more to it

  Than meets the eye.

  Fuller sense, sensus plenior

Is what Jesus wanted all to know.

  Read the Bible,

  Study scriptures,

  Pray the Spirit

  To lead me on.

  God’s Word’s alive and active

Bringing hope and joy to all.
